Hi! I’m Ana,

I’m 37, Brazilian/Venezuelan, the youngest of 3 sisters, raised around the world by a Diplomatic father and a Lawyer mother, married to my best friend for over 12 years, mum to a clever, extrovert and chatty 6 year old boy, and a set of cheeky, sweet, very energetic 4 years old twins, happily living in Canberra since 2010.

Not long ago I was completely incompetent in the dessert department, like, seriously, baking equaled rocket science to me. But then, motherhood happened and I was home with a newborn, craving like crazy the sweet treats that my sister and my husband’s grandma used to make. I started asking them for recipes, getting obsessed with YouTube cooking channels, recipe books and workshops. And despite failing most of the time I found a hobby, a passion and a dream.

After lots, lots, and lots of practice, I build the confidence and the skills to jump into business, and I co-funded The Sweet Tooth Society (2018-2020), a very ambitious and successful project that thaught me many life lessons as well as the “ups” and “downs” of the industry. Life happened, COVID happened, and sadly we had to shot our doors down, however, the dream remained alive.

Nine months and 29 days later (yes, I was counting the days) Poked! was born; a new concept, a new me name, a best seller cake. And when I say “best seller”, I mean, by far, our most popular dessert. A cake so delicious that it was worthy of its own brand: the Tres Leches. An original recipe, developed from scratch, tested to perfection; a truly unique and amazing experience in every bite.

I’m happy and very excited to be back, against all odds. I’m looking forward to indulge your palate with the best Tres Leches cake you’ll EVER HAVE (that’s a promise!)

Thanks for being here, and for being a part of this new chapter.

Love,
Ana Barráez.
